As a member of the Greenpainters Association, Fresco Painting adheres to a strict code of environmentally sustainable practice that ensures the environmental impact of painting is minimized.
As a Greenpainter, Fresco Painting prefers to use low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints for interior acrylic work, and water-based interior enamel equivalents. Plant and mineral based paints are also available and can be used on request.
VOCs are petroleum-based solvents that evaporate from paint while it is drying. These compounds are one of the causes of paint odours. The VOCs are released into the environment for up to 5 years after application which means that you are still breathing in these paint fumes long after the paints have dried. These fumes reduce air quality in your home and also result in air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
Conventional acrylic paints have around 3-7% VOCs while conventional oil-based enamel paints have between 35-50% VOCs. Low VOC acrylic paints have less than 1% VOC (untinted) and enamel equivalents contain around 8% VOC (untinted). Like conventional paints, low VOC paints are washable and stain resistant and come in a huge range of colours. Low VOC paints have virtually no paint fumes and odours that may trigger breathing discomfort or asthma. It allows you to move straight back into a room after painting, because you don’t have to wait for the paint smell to clear.
Dulux EnvirO2 paints are certified "Greenhouse Friendly" which means they are 100% greenhouse neutral. Greenhouse neutral means that greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production, use and disposal of the product have been offset by reducing emissions in other areas. Environmental sustainability extends to our waste management systems. Fresco Painting recycles all left over paint, paint cans and turps. We also use the Dulux Envirowash system, a water-based paint wash-out and treatment system that turns paint wash water into clean water and solid waste. This also means that all cleaning is done offsite, not at your home. For more information about GreenPainters and other green paints please visit www.greenpainters.com.au.
